World engagement blog #3- The Mexican drug War: How it Effects the US

    When the military intervened in 2006, the Mexican government’s primary goal was to lessen drug-related bloodshed. This battle is still continuing on between the Mexican government and different drug trafficking syndicates. According to the Mexican government, breaking up cartels, and stopping.   drug trafficking is their top priority. Since Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo’s arrest in 1989, the struggle has been referred to as the Mexican theater of the worldwide war on drugs, spearheaded by the United States. Miguel was the leader and co-founder of the Guadalajara, which was the first significant Mexican drug cartel. Federal government violence was then removed from the equation. Following his apprehension, the coalition disintegrated, with prominent members establishing their individual cartels to content with dominance over regions. 

    Mexican organizations involved in drug trafficking, often known as the transitional crim groups, control the impact and distribution of fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine into the United States. The majority of heroin and meth manufacturing comes from Mexican suppliers, while cocaine is mostly made in Colombia and then smuggles into the country by Mexican criminal groups. The gang also smuggles enormous amounts of marijuana into Mexico because it is legalized in most of the United States- but not in Mexico.
